Public Works Programs

The City of Walker is proud to offer several community-focused programs—many at low or no cost—to help residents maintain clean, safe, and attractive neighborhoods. These services reflect our commitment to sustainability, community pride, and public safety. The Department of Public Works takes great pride in supporting these initiatives, working alongside residents to keep our city beautiful and well-maintained.

Adopt-a-Road

This volunteer-based program invites individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to "adopt" a section of roadway to keep clean and litter-free. It’s a great way to give back to the community while enhancing the beauty and safety of our roads.

Community Clean-Up Days

Our Clean-Up Days offer residents a designated time to dispose of unwanted household items, yard waste, and debris at a discounted cost. This effort encourages responsible waste disposal and helps prevent litter and illegal dumping, keeping our community clean and welcoming.

Leaf Recycling

Each fall, the Leaf Recycling Program gives residents a convenient, eco-friendly way to dispose of fallen leaves. Instead of sending yard waste to the landfill, leaves are collected and processed into compost or mulch. This helps reduce environmental impact while keeping streets and storm drains clear.

Sidewalk Program

The Sidewalk Program ensures our sidewalks remain safe and accessible for all residents. Through inspections, repairs, and replacements, the city works with property owners to improve pedestrian safety and promote walkability throughout Walker.

Paving Program

The City of Walker’s Paving Program focuses on maintaining and improving road surfaces throughout the community. Each year, streets are evaluated and prioritized for resurfacing or reconstruction based on their condition and usage. This program ensures safer, smoother travel for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike—supporting long-term infrastructure health and quality of life for all residents.

Our Commitment

The Department of Public Works takes great pride in offering these programs as part of our mission to maintain high-quality infrastructure and a vibrant environment. We believe that a clean, safe, and well-cared-for city is a reflection of community pride—and we are honored to partner with residents in making Walker a great place to live, work, and grow.
