I have served as Mayor of Walker since January of 2019. Prior to this, I had represented the Second Ward of Walker as a City Commissioner starting in January of 2013, and as Mayor Pro-Tem since November of 2017.
My wife Cori and I were married in 1990, and we live at 2068 Deerfield NW. We have three adult children: Alex, Brenden, and Caitlin. Alex and Caitlin are both police officers for departments in Kent County, while Brenden is a dentist practicing in Walker. Our daughter-in-law Emily is a school social worker in a local school district, and soon-to-be daughter-in-law Shannon is a corporate marketing specialist for a local business. We are blessed to have our first granddaughter Zoey, and I cannot forget our silver lab Piper who is a frequent visitor to City Hall. My wife and I are also members of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
My business career of over 30 years has been in sales and leadership roles for larger, privately-held and Fortune 500 companies. I currently serve as a Market Leader for Gibson Insurance out of South Bend, Indiana where I lead the growth of our emerging Michigan Market. I have my Associates's Degree from Grand Rapids Community College and my Bachelor of Science in Integrative Studies with an emphasis in Leadership from Grand Valley State University.
Currently, I am also a varsity football coach at West Catholic High School. I have also served in numerous roles with the Kenowa Hills School District, including high school football coach, Education Foundation president and trustee, and multiple Facilities and Bond Committees.
In addition to serving as Mayor, I represent the Walker community in the following committee or board roles:
- Finance Committee
- Personnel Committee
- Emergency Planning Committee
- Downtown Development Authority
- Grand Valley Metro Council
- Interurban Transit Partnership (The RAPID) Board of Directors
