Traffic and Civil Infractions
Civil infractions, including most traffic and parking offenses, are non-criminal violations resulting from an act or omission that does not constitute a crime.
Important Information
- If you have been issued a Municipal Civil Infraction related to a property issue, the City of Walker Code Enforcement Officer will inform you of your obligations.
- If your ticket specifies a court appearance date and time, you must appear in court at the scheduled time.
Options for Responding to a Traffic Citation
- Admit Responsibility (Pay the Ticket):
- Pay the ticket in person or by mail within 10 business days of receiving it.
- Failure to pay within 10 business days will result in late fees. Continued non-payment may lead to suspension of your driver’s license by the Michigan Secretary of State.
- Admit Responsibility with Explanation
- Submit a letter in person or by mail within 10 business days explaining any mitigating factors.
- The Magistrate will review your explanation and respond by mail with a decision. You may receive either an adjusted amount owed or a notice to appear for a hearing.
- Deny Responsibility (Request a Hearing)
- Contact the court office at (616) 453-5765 within 10 business days to request an informal hearing.
- You will receive a notice by mail with the hearing date.
